Park Primary School

'Hand in hand, together we can'

Recent Reviews

Have a read of some reviews of Park Primary from some of our P7 Pupils:

“Park Primary School has many different forms and ways of bringing entertainment to their pupils, as someone from primary 7 who has been attending this school since nursery, I can confirm that this is a great place for children to learn and make new friends!

Firstly, the teachers/staff are very respectful and make decisions carefully, they only want what they know is best for you! They make sure not to overwork you or give you a piece of work they believe you cannot do, if not, they direct you into learning it slowly as it can take time to learn new things depending on your knowledge on that specific subject.

Next, our school is a welcoming place to new people or anyone in general. Everyone treats each other with respect, all classes have strong bonds together and are grateful for that.

Every two weeks on a Friday afternoon, instead of assembly pupils are split into five groups and learn different things based on their topics. These groups are led by Mrs Polson-Mackenzie, Miss Nicol, Mrs Macdonald, Mrs Keyes and Mrs Sproule. However, when there is an assembly hosted, the order is normally song practise, achievement bands, song practise again and house points. If your house team wins you stay out for five extra minutes at break after the weekend and a member of staff stays with them, which is quite fun because it’s always a surprise for who wins!

Finally, my favourite teacher Mrs Polson-Mackenzie, in my opinion she is a very great teacher. The most intriguing part is that she’s very strong and has loads of positive energy, she will never give up on you! I hope people appreciate what she’s done for us as much as I do!” Amber P7

“I love this School because everyone is kind. I get lots of opportunities and responsibilities and the teachers are really kind. I enjoy coming to school because I know that it will be a good day, and if someone is upset or sad or left out, we will make sure that they are Okay! That’s why I love this school!” Ruby P7

“I love this school because of how much responsibility we have. The teachers always try their best to give us a good education and the best of what we have🙂! The school always considers everyone’s opinions.  We even have Pupil Groups that help others to be kind and make others happy😊. In my opinion, the best group is the Helping Hands run by Mrs Polson Mackenzie & Mrs Fraser where they both do an excellent job 😄 This group allows others to have fun and make events for others to enjoy! This is why I love this school♥️” By Charlotte P7

Virtual Run – March 2022

The Active Schools Team are delighted to announce the launch of our HLH Virtual Running series for the month of March! We have missed being able to put on our usual running events this year but we still want to help get your pupils out and running! This virtual running series hopes to get as many Primary aged children as possible from across the Highlands to participate.

Here’s a wee summary of what’s involved:
Each pupil who completes their local course (see attached) and uploads their entry will gain an email certificate. We will showcase the participation figures per Primary School and School Cluster and then award schools with the highest percentage of pupils taking part as our ‘Active Highland Virtual Running Series Champions’.

You can complete your local courses as many times as you want during the month and submit all your entries. Time is not a requirement, yet if recorded can be included in your submission (see if you can improve your time over the month). We also encourage schools and parents to upload and share photos, videos, tracking data and stories through our social media channels. You can see the route by clicking here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eTrgYpNGjNIbGKKC3rl-eNqyT8IwWaiB/view?usp=sharing

The submission of all participant runs must be in by 5pm on Thursday 31st March 2021 via the HLH Challenge Link. Entries after this time may not be counted.

Full details can be found here: https://www.highlifehighland.com/sport/high-life-highland-virtual-running-event/

It would be great to have as many Park pupils as possible taking part in this event!

Letter from Jason Leitch

Coronavirus – Jason Leitch Letter on testing and common colds – 31 August 2020

Important Information

We are aware that positive cases of Covid-19 can cause some local anxiety in the community. Please be reassured that our Health Protection Team is working closely with colleagues within the Highland Council to continually monitor the situation in Highland. Guidance has been provided to teachers in all our schools regarding any incidence of Covid-19 or similar symptoms within the school community.

Pupils and staff should not attend school if any symptoms develop. Please inform the school.

The key message is don’t go to school or work if you are ill

For most people, Covid-19 will be a mild illness. If you develop symptoms you should remain self-isolating at home for 10 days from the date when your symptoms appeared, even if this takes you over the 14 day period currently advised.

Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and further information on testing can be found on NHS Inform. In the event that you develop symptoms, all other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days.

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

  • new continuous cough and/or
  • high temperature and/or
  • a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • wash your hands as soon as you get home
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

Please also follow the five rules that are highlighted in the national FACTS campaign –

  • Face coverings in enclosed spaces
  • Avoid crowded places indoors or outdoors
  • Clean your hands regularly and remember to clean hard surfaces that you might be touching
  • Two metre physical distancing remains in place – this is especially important at the school gates when dropping off or collecting your children.
  • Self-isolate and book a test if you have any of the symptoms of Covid19 – a cough, a temperature, or a loss of, or change in your sense of taste or smell

There is evidence of increasing transmission across Scotland. Covid19 is still here and it is important that everyone takes responsibility and follows the national guidance to keep them and others safe. Everyone in Highland, Argyll and Bute has a role to play to keep the number of positive cases as low as possible.

Information about free helpline

The Highland Council has launched a free helpline to give assistance and to collect details of individuals and community groups looking to provide volunteering support during Covid19. The number will be live from 2pm today (Wednesday 25 March)

The single line number – 0300 303 1362 – will connect callers to relevant Council specialist teams and will operate Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm. All calls are free.

Callers will be able to get advice on benefits and personal support, education and social care and there will also be advice for businesses who may need help with financial support. Helpline staff will also be signposting callers to other organisations that can provide help and assistance as well as gathering offers from individuals or community groups wishing to volunteer.

The service is operated by council staff and Eden Court volunteers who will be home based. Staffing levels will be kept under review to respond to the demand.

Chief Executive Donna Manson said: “I want to thank everyone involved for all their hard work for getting this helpline up and running in such a short time. As well as Highland Council employees volunteering we are also very grateful for the assistance of Eden Court staff. The Helpline is now in place to help those most in need of assistance, so we are requesting that anyone who can continue to use our on-line forms and resources do so as much as possible.”

The new helpline is just one of several proactive actions the council is taking.  Work to set up a number of Humanitarian Assistance Centres across the Highlands is underway and details are expected to be published in the next 24 hours.

The Council is continuing to co-ordinate all offers of community group support, while the Highland’s 3rd Sector is co-ordinating individual offers of support.  There will be close joint working to maximise the valuable offers of support from community groups and individuals.

A message from Mrs Cox

Good morning Everyone! I hope you are all staying nice and safe at home and enjoying engaging with the learning your teachers have been working so hard to provide for you.
Yesterday was a stressful day as when all the staff working from home logged on, the system was overloaded. We got there in the end but thank you for your patience and support.
It has been lovely to see all that you have been up to through photos on Seesaw! Teachers have been keeping a register of who has responded to the check-in question and engaging with work. Today is day 3 and Mrs Campbell and I will be phoning anyone we haven’t heard from this afternoon to check you are ok. If you haven’t responded to check-in questions or learning at home yet, please do so today and save yourselves a phone call!

Please stay safe! Missing you all!
Best wishes
Mrs Cox

Update

In light of the UK and Scottish Government’s decision tonight to begin a three-week lockdown in order to delay the spread of the Coronavirus, the Highland Council has taken the decision to cancel the provision of school meals for the time being. The current format of provision would involve staff and children gathering at school premises and this would go against national advice and directives.
